The most decorated athletes at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games

Swimmers, as well as competitors from the United States and China, among others, set the tone at these games.

The six medals won by Chinese swimmer Yufei Zhang at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games made her the most decorated athlete in the competition. However, Zhang wasn't even in the top 50 of the athlete's medal table because none of those medals were gold.

The top performer in Paris 2024 was Leon Marchand. The French swimmer clinched four golds and a bronze medal.

American Torri Huske and Australian Mollie O'Callaghan, swimmers, won three gold medals each. Huske added two silvers, while O'Callaghan clinched a silver and a bronze medal.

One-third of the most decorated athletes in Paris 2024 were swimmers. Far behind were artistic gymnasts (9.8%), track and field athletes, sprint canoeists, and table tennis players among the athletes who won the most medals at the last Olympic Games.

Gymnast legend Simone Biles won three golds and a silver. Biles was the best non-swimmer performer at the Games. Her 11 Olympic medals confirm her as the most decorated gymnast in history.

Top athletes by sport

Besides Marchand and Biles, the three golds clinched by Dutch Harrie Lavreysen made him the most winning cyclist. South Korean archers Woojin Kim and Sihyeon Lim and sprint canoeist Lisa Carrington were the top performers in their respective disciplines (three gold medals each). American Gabrielle Thomas was the queen of athletics with her three gold medals.

Table tennis player Yingsha Sun clinched two gold medals and a silver, while Chinese Yiwen Chen and Hongchan Quan, with two golds each, topped diving.

German jockey Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, fencers Lee Kiefer (USA) and Sanguk Oh (South Korea), and French judoka Teddy Riner earned two golds each.

The table detailing the performance of the most outstanding athletes of the Paris 2024 Olympics is below. It's sorted by gold, silver, bronze, and total medals. The data can be filtered and sorted by athlete name, number of medals of any denomination, gender, country, and discipline.

All the individual and team medal winners

Although this note initially focused on the most prominent athletes in Paris 2024, participating in an Olympic event is a remarkable achievement, not to mention winning a medal, no matter which type.

That's why the following two tables are a homage to those who clinched a medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The first one includes all the individual and team medal winners sorted in descending order by the day of competition. It consists of the medal type (gold, silver, and bronze), name of the individual athlete or team, code of the country, gender, discipline, event, event type, and the olympics.com URL of the event.

The second table includes the individual athletes who earned medals in team events, for example, Kevin Durant, who clinched his fourth gold medal with the basketball Team USA. It also details the birth date of each medal-winning athlete.

Speaking of birth dates, the age difference between the oldest and the youngest medal winner at Paris 2024 is roughly 44,5 years (exactly 16,250 days). American equestrian Laura Kraut is 58, while Australian skateboarder Alisa Trew is just 14.

Remember that the data of the three tables in this note can be downloaded (even the filtered data) in CSV and JSON formats.
