About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for Argentina (AR)
This dataset lists Argentine postal codes with place names, provinces and WGS84 coordinates, covering every ISO 3166-2:AR subdivision except Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires (AR-C). These are the LEGACY 4-digit postal codes (pre-1999), not the modern 8-character alphanumeric CPA in official use since 1998-2000 – no bulk source for the modern CPA under an open licence was found.
Column definitions, row count, size and last-updated date are in datapackage.yaml.
Data Sources
- Postal codes, place names, provinces and coordinates: © GeoNames, postal code export for Argentina, CC BY 4.0.
Changes made to the source data: province codes (admin_code1) written as ISO 3166-2:AR codes (AR- plus the province letter), and the department/partido columns (admin_name2, admin_code2) left empty.
Not endorsed by, or affiliated with, GeoNames. See ATTRIBUTION.txt for the full attribution notice.
Known limitations
- Province tier only (no department/partido).
- GeoNames states for Argentina that the data file contains the first 5 positions of the postal code.
- Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires (AR-C) has no rows in this legacy numbering.
- Some (postal_code, place_name) pairs are legitimately shared by distinct places in different provinces – join on (postal_code, place_name, admin_code1).
alternative_city_nameis not populated.

the links provided in datapackage.yaml.
