About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for Chile (CL)
This dataset lists Chilean postal codes at comuna level, with regions, provinces and
comunas. The last four digits of every postal code are 0000.
Column definitions, row count, size and last-updated date are in datapackage.yaml.
Data Sources
- Postal codes, place names, administrative divisions and coordinates: © GeoNames, postal code export for Chile, CC BY 4.0.
Changes made to the source data: region codes are derived from the comuna-code prefix (GeoNames' own region numbering is not official) and verified self-consistent against Chile's INE codes; leading zeros stripped from region and comuna codes are restored.
Not endorsed by, or affiliated with, GeoNames.
Known limitations
- Some comunas in the Ñuble region are still coded under the pre-2018 Biobío split, because no current comuna-to-region reference was available to correct them.
Usage
The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using
the links provided in datapackage.yaml. Read admin_code1 and admin_code3 as text,
never as a number: Chilean region and comuna codes can start with zero (01, 01101).
