About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for China (CN)
This dataset lists postal codes for mainland China at prefecture and county level, with place names, province-level divisions, prefectures and WGS84 coordinates. It covers the mainland province-level divisions in ISO 3166-2:CN.
Column definitions, row count, size and last-updated date are in datapackage.yaml.
Data Sources
- Postal codes, place names, administrative divisions and coordinates: © GeoNames, postal code export for China, CC BY 4.0.
Changes made to the source data: province codes (admin_code1) recomputed as ISO 3166-2:CN codes (for example CN-BJ),
admin_code2 kept only where it is a 4-digit prefecture code, and literal "nan" values and float-formatted accuracy values
removed.
Not endorsed by, or affiliated with, GeoNames.
Known limitations
- The source carries only the first digits of the full Chinese postal codes, so every code ends in
00. The data is at prefecture and county level and does not contain township-level codes. - Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are not included. The source covers the mainland divisions only.
admin_code2is empty for the direct-administered municipalities and for county-level cities that sit directly under their province, where there is no prefecture code.alternative_city_nameis not populated.

The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using
the links provided in datapackage.yaml.
