About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for Greece (GR)
This dataset lists Greek postal codes with place names and the region and NUTS3 regional unit derived from Eurostat GISCO.
Column definitions, row count, size and last-updated date are in datapackage.yaml.
Coverage note: read before relying on this for Athens. Coverage is partial, and the gap is concentrated in the Athens metropolitan area (postal codes 13xxx–19xxx). GISCO's own documentation states coverage is not guaranteed complete, and excludes non-geographic codes (PO boxes, large-recipient codes) by design.

No official Greek postal authority (ELTA) bulk source is licensable: ELTA's own site asserts copyright with no licence grant, GeoNames does not carry Greece at all, and the two community GitHub alternatives were rejected (one derived from a Google Maps scrape in breach of Google's terms, one carries no licence at all).
Changes made to the source data: only Greek rows kept; NUTS3 codes cleaned of literal quotes; region and regional-unit names (English) and ISO 3166-2:GR region letters added from lookup tables; rows sorted by postal code.
Not endorsed by, or affiliated with, Eurostat or the European Commission.
Licensing status: read before commercial use. Licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, which requires attribution and share-alike. This dataset is distributed free, not sold as an exclusive product; selling it while stripping attribution or blocking further redistribution would breach the licence. See ATTRIBUTION.txt for the full disclosure.
Known limitations
place_nameis spelled as GISCO spells it (without Greek accents). A substantial share of rows carry a "pseudo-community" place name (e.g. "Ψευδοκοινοτητα Αθηναιων") rather than a named neighbourhood; this is a real, standard Greek statistical term for an unsubdivided municipality, not an error, but granularity is uneven across rows.admin_code3is the raw ELSTAT municipality code; some are 7 digits because GISCO dropped a leading zero.admin_name3is empty.- Coordinates,
accuracyandalternative_city_nameare empty: the source carries no geometry.
Usage
The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using
the links provided in datapackage.yaml. Read postal_code and admin_code3 as text (dtype=str).
