About this dataset

Guyana (GY) — licensing trace

Built 2026-08-27 alongside Seychelles/DR Congo/Sierra Leone, per human instruction to build out the remaining no-postal-code countries.

Product-shape exception

Same exception as SC/CD/SL: this project's convention states the postal-codes product is "a list of postal codes" and a no-code placeholder "does not belong in it." Guyana has none. Ships into the standard gy/ prefix anyway, with postal_code genuinely empty on every row, per explicit human instruction.

Licence — the weakest case in this batch

Unlike Seychelles/DR Congo (Wikipedia, CC BY-SA — a known licence) or Sierra Leone (OCHA COD-AB, CC-BY-IGO — a known licence), Guyana's region/settlement list came from the datopian/Fedex-dataset repository's legacy parse_guyana.py, which hardcodes the data directly in the script with no source citation anywhere — no URL, no comment naming where it was compiled from. There is no site to check terms of use against.

licence_status.decision: "unresolved" — same free-only bucket as MU/VN/SN, but flagged as weaker: those all have an identified source whose absence of stated terms was actually verified. This one has no identified source at all. Re-verify or re-source if this ever needs to be sold, or if a provenance trail is ever found.

What was checked and corrected

Region codes (admin_code1) independently verified against the real ISO 3166-2:GY list — all 10 match (BA, PM, ES, DE, MA, EB, CU, PT, UT, UD).
3 duplicate places in the source (Georgetown, Fort Wellington, Mahdia — each listed twice under different settlement-type labels) were deduplicated, keeping the more specific label. 127 source rows → 124 shipped rows.

What ships

gy.csv — 124 rows, one per settlement, 13-column postal-codes schema, postal_code empty throughout. is_premium is not set — this cannot be sold while the licence is unresolved.
