About this dataset

Postal Codes Dataset for Mexico (MX)

This dataset contains Mexican postal codes — 150,472 rows, 38,265 distinct codes across all 32 states. Built by consolidating GeoNames with SEPOMEX's own official code list and boundary polygons.

Note: This dataset is a sample containing the first 100 rows. If you need access to the complete dataset, please contact our sales team for more information: datahub@datopian.com

Data Sources

Place names and administrative tiers are sourced from GeoNames. The authoritative postal code list and boundary polygons are sourced from SEPOMEX (Servicio Postal Mexicano), Mexico's postal operator, published via datos.gob.mx. Both are licensed CC BY 4.0.

Licensing status. Cleared to sell — licence_status.decision: compatible for both source components. See ATTRIBUTION.txt for the full attribution notice.

Coverage note. 5,817 postal codes in this release come only from SEPOMEX's official list — GeoNames does not carry them. These rows have a verified state and an official polygon-centroid coordinate, but no colonia/municipio name, because SEPOMEX's own data provides none. 141,160 rows have coordinates upgraded from a GeoNames estimate to a real SEPOMEX polygon centroid.

Usage

The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using the links provided in the datapackage.yml.

postal_code and admin_code1 must be read as text (dtype=str) — a naive pd.read_csv() can otherwise mis-handle leading zeros (1,300 codes carry one).
