About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for Norway (NO)
This dataset contains Norwegian postal codes with municipality (kommune) and county (fylke), including the special territories Svalbard and Jan Mayen. It covers every fylke and every kommune.
Column definitions, row count, size and last-updated date are in datapackage.yaml.
Data Sources
- Postal codes and municipality data: © Bring (Posten Norge AS), Norway's national postal operator, postnummerregister, licensed under the Norwegian Licence for Open Government Data (NLOD) 2.0 – commercial use and resale permitted on attribution alone, no share-alike.
Contains data under the Norwegian licence for Open Government data (NLOD) distributed by Posten Norge AS / Bring.
Changes made to the source data: the source register carries municipality but no county, so the county is derived from the first two digits of the municipality number (Norway's official fylkesnummer); admin_code1 is that fylkesnummer, NO- prefixed.
Not endorsed by, or affiliated with, Bring or Posten Norge.
Known limitations
- ISO 3166-2:NO note: Norway's fylke (county) structure changed on 2024-01-01 (Viken split into Ostfold/Akershus/Buskerud; Vestfold og Telemark split into Vestfold/Telemark; Troms og Finnmark split into Troms/Finnmark), but ISO's own register has not been updated to reflect this (ISO 3166-2:NO still reflects the 2020-2024 structure).
admin_code1uses Norway's own official fylkesnummer for every value, including the counties that do not yet have an individual ISO 3166-2:NO entry (Ostfold, Akershus, Buskerud, Vestfold, Telemark, Troms, Finnmark), rather than reusing their stale pre-2024 merged code or leaving the column empty. - No coordinates: the source register does not carry them.

The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using
the links provided in datapackage.yaml.
