About this dataset
Postal Codes Dataset for Sweden (SE)
This dataset contains Swedish postal codes — 18,858 rows, one row per postal code, covering all 21 län (counties) and all 290 kommuner (municipalities).
Granularity note: Sweden's postal codes are effectively unit-level — each of the
18,858 distinct codes maps to exactly one row. postal_code is a 5-digit code shown
in the official NNN NN display format (the space is part of the value).
Administrative coverage: every row carries both län and kommun; there are no
gaps. The source supplies kommun directly for most rows. Where it left one blank, the
value was filled from evidence already in the dataset — the same postal town's other
rows, the administrative reference, or an unambiguous postal-code prefix — or from a
documented corrections table, never guessed. admin_code2 (a kommun code) is left
blank rather than fabricated: Sweden has no official municipality-level ISO code.
Coordinate accuracy: every row carries accuracy AREA — the coordinate is a
postal-code centroid, not a building- or street-level point.

Data Sources
Postal codes and coordinates are sourced from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), a community-maintained open geographic database. Län and kommun names are sourced from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Both attributions apply to this dataset.
Usage
The dataset files are available in CSV format and can be accessed and downloaded using the links provided in the datapackage.yml.
postal_code includes a significant space (145 00) and must be read as text
(dtype=str), or use the schema in the packaged datapackage.json.
