It was compiled in 2026 by the TableTemplates Data & Research Team while building an open catalog of downloadable spreadsheet templates.
Headline findings
- Project management is the biggest category by keyword count (130 keywords, ~32,200 combined monthly searches), ahead of CRM & sales KPIs (113) and HR, scheduling & payroll (109).
- Bookkeeping & accounting punches far above its weight: only 45 keywords but ~24,200 monthly searches — the highest demand density of any category. The single biggest keyword in the dataset is excel accounting software (8,250 searches/month).
- Evergreen personal-finance demand: personal budget template excel (6,610), excel inventory template (6,490) and invoice excel template (6,460) round out the top four.
