House prices in Paris since 1200

Data

The data comes from the public cgedd's website : http://www.cgedd.developpement-durable.gouv.fr/prix-immobilier-evolution-a-long-terme-a1048.html.

The main sources of these indices of home prices in Paris are:

  • Notaries' databases
  • Indices Notaires-INSEE

The indices in nominal currency have been deflated by a consumer price index computed by splicing the following sources:

  • Years 1200-1790: D'Avenel's index of the purchasing power of silver
  • Years 1790-1798: Villa (CEPII) index of the average price of cereals
  • 1913-2005: INSEE

These data has been gathered by Jacques Friggit according to the method exposed in this paper. Base index 1.0 in year 2000.

Note that this is the aggregation of 3 series of data and gaps are big at junctions.
