Make it super simple and easy to publish your dataset with Datahub Cloud. CSV and a readme…

Publish your open data with DH Cloud.

Here are instructions on how to do that:

  1. Here is how to create a data package

  2. Docs step-by-step guide with DH Cloud

  3. You want to create a website or you want to publish your notebook (your personal notes), no code required, you can do it quickly and elegantly

If this was a data-driven hackathon, you want to curate a list of datasets before the hackathon; we can make a data catalog // You actually want to publish datasets or

We've got a tool that makes you publish

Venezuela doesn't have any open data

They either go to foreign datasets or they need to create it themselves

Government issues …

Passionate about data and creating data

Can I use data from official sources and not create it myself? You can…

He can start working immediately. 3-4 hours a day.

Journalists there don't use Github. They use Excel, Google Spreadsheets. You generate a link or you embed it in a website. Medium site and you link to the Google Spreadsheet…

Standard in most countries is to use Git and Github but Venezuela is a bit behind.

How many hours do you think you need to create a data story?

  • Depends on the complexity of the data story. I can create a data story for 3-4 hours… eg. 500 words an hour or more…
  • Based on the experience, when an article is too long, people don't read it.
  • Bounce rate is quite high.

Next steps

  1. He will first get back and give us his rate
  2. Then he will prep the contract and we sent it to us to review and approve
  3. Then he will get my Whatsapp and share 4-5 data stories with me
  4. I will select the first one that I want him to work on
  5. He will create it, prepare his data and ping me
  6. We will get on a call where I will walk him through the process of updating eg. the barchart with his data

He is working for Thehundu as of today from 3.30pm to 9pm Indian time

www.thehindu.com/data/

He is doing exactly what we need. He is working on a data story. He is "proving it" by collecting, analysing, and preparing the data. He then creates visualizations and graphs. He is publishing all this in an article, eg. see https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/un-climate-chief-says-two-years-to-save-the-planet/article68051233.ece

He is available from around 7.30am IST to around 1-2 pm IST

Agenda:

  1. Check in
  2. Short intros
  3. Background and needs
    1. The latest version of DH Cloud - what it does and how it works
    2. Where we are in our project and what we need
  4. Datahub Cloud Onboarding
  5. Next steps

Context and needs

Write datasets and data stories and publish them with DH Cloud. We will use them to showcase what DH Cloud does which we hope will sell the product itself (indirectly). Roughly 2 types of posts:

  • Data stories e.g. "How (or why) are interest rates are rising around the world"
    • Target readers: everyone who is interested on the topic… (doesn't need to be a data person)
  • Datasets: "here is this interesting dataset on DataHub". Or, even "here's an interesting one online" - though usually we will have a created a page on datahub for the dataset.
    • Target readers: Data geeks aka data engineers, data scientists, data journalists people who play around with data

Datahub Cloud Onboarding

  • Clicking on the template doesn't open in a new tab (so they basically go out of the app)

We are going to open this up to a wider audience. So that they can create data stories on their own and use them to publish datasets.

  1. One is to test and get shortcomings from datahub
  2. Two is to create interesting examples/showcases that we can market

Great I can add a chart but how do I add my data there?

He can start working immediately. Hourly.

Next steps

Docs

White glove onboarding.

Why are you publishing on DH Cloud? Who are you sending it to?

People are coming to publish datasets. What are they looking for? Cool datasets.

DH cloud is publishing to myself. This is a possibility. Slightly different pivot. Writing a report or doing something.

Start posting interesting datasets and people will start seeing them. Getting people to post on their platform and getting them to post on reddit. Or post on twitter.

Those people who come to see this, they want to start posting it to themselves.

A dataset a day keeps a doctor away.

Replicate statista at a small level. Pick a dataset from statista, we will post it.

Product comparison is driving nuts // we can just start publishing this stuff // an open source version of product comparison (mini project idea)

nomad list solo enterpreneurs AI adds // spreadsheet of countries where he

Product comparison sucks. It can be clothes, make up. EVeryone is interested in buying something. It can start like a blog or a post. What is the most expensive lipstick?

Add a csv to my readme and have it render into a table …

Situation

  • We have the offer out on https://datahub.io/.
  • Currently, a user can only sign up for the waitlist but can't access the App/Product. We have 152 people on the waitlist
  • We hosted an event earlier this month to soft-launch the product on Open Data Day and we have given a few users early access already (10-15 users).
    • We have almost no feedback from these people.
    • 2-3 of them have actually signed up for the product.
  • As of today, we have emailed ~120 of the people from the waitlist offering them onboarding.
  • We are not driving a lot of attention to it atm.

Target Audience

  • Github users
  • Individuals such as researchers, data scientists, data analysts, data enthusiasts
  • Open data folks who want to share data
  • People sharing data on GitHub
  • Open Data crowd People who want to share publicly data and data-driven insights

Problem / Challenges

The response rate to onboarding emails is very low. We are not able to gather much feedback. We don't know:

  • what the users think about the current version of the product
  • if they would want to start actively using it
  • if they would want to pay for it
  • how much they would want to pay
  • what their needs are for further product development. We don't know how to reach our target audience. We don't have any experience with SaaS marketing and with B2C products in general.
